Beauty tips with Olive Oil
Olive Oil & beauty
Aside from the undisputable benefits of Olive Oil as a food source, it has also been shown that the application of Olive Oil on several parts of our body yields some surprising and equally amazing results. Besides, Jeanne Louise Calment, a French woman who until 1997 retained the title of the “oldest human alive”, provided an irrefutable testament when she declared in an interview that the secret to her longevity and freshness was Olive Oil, with which she frequently seasoned her food, or sprinkled on her skin.
In Greece, the habit of locally applying Olive Oil to the skin is widely adopted throughout the country and is something that has its roots in ancient times. This trend is now increasingly gaining ground among fans of natural beauty products and healthy living.
Pure Olive Oil has proven emollient, moisturizing and antiseptic properties and therefore has many and diverse uses. |
10 quick & easy Olive Oil beauty tips:
Natural moisturizer for dry scalp
Most types of problems related to dry skin are a consequence of dehydration, often as a result of a sudden weather change, which does not allow enough time for our skin to adjust to the new weather conditions. One of the most persistent and annoying types of dry skin is the one known as ‘dry scalp’, i.e. the skin of our head. Most common symptoms are cracking of the skin, itching and a tingling sensation. Most treatments involve using special shampoos and avoiding hair dyes and any other chemicals. A natural, effective alternative is Olive Oil.
Next time, try applying Olive Oil on the skin of your head, using a dye applicator and then brush it along the length of your hair. Cover your hair with a waterproof membrane and leave it on overnight. The next day wash your hair with shampoo, without using water, and then wash off the olive oil using shampoo and water. The result will leave you gasping with amazement!
Moisturizing mask for healthy and shinny hair
To add shine to your hair, try mixing 50ml of pure Olive Oil with 50ml of laurel oil. Spread this nutritious and invigorating mix on your hair prior to washing, taking care to avoid the roots of the hair, if these are already oily, and spreading well on the tips of the hair, which exhibit the highest degree of dryness. Cover your hair with a warm towel and leave the mix on for 30 min, then wash as normal. You can apply this “olive oil hair mask” once a week, or any time you feel your hair are in dire need of nutrition and invigoration.
Body and hand lotion
Mix 50ml of olive oil with 50ml calendula oil. Add 10 drops of geranium essential oil, 10ml of lavender essential oil and 10ml of rose essential oil. This moisturizing mix can be applied daily on any parts of the body and hands that suffer from dryness. It is preferable to use at night, prior to bedtime.
Face moisturizer for healthy glowing skin
The application of olive oil with a few drops of lemon juice on your face will work miracles. It prevents the appearance of wrinkles and leaves your skin feeling soft and looking beautiful and glowing.
