On the island of Crete exists the oldest oliveoil tree of the land designated as natural monument. Its age is calculated around 2,500 to 5,000 years and the perimeter of the trunk reaches 12 meters.
A branch of this tree was cut to create a wreath to crown the first Olympic Marathon in the Olympic Games held in Beijing in 2008.
Having traveled most of the countries in Europe and Asia, finally arrived in Beijing. It was a symbolic action initiated by the Greeks to revive the idea of peace and friendship among peoples, and linked to ancient times.
