The aim of Alexander's the Great campaign, (which considered perhaps the greatest marshal of the world) was not only imperialistic but also cultural. For this reason, he was beloved by all the people he conquered.

After Alexander's death in 323 BC The empire was divided. Since 30 BC and after, the Greek area will be part of the Roman and later Byzantine Empire, but the hellinism character of the cities still remains.

In 1453 AD, both the Byzantine and Greek area was conquered by the Ottomans until 1821 AD. It is a period of stagnation for the Greek civilization, because all the Greek areas were occupied by the Ottomans who were a nation not very developed at that time. In 1821 AD, the Greeks rebelled and regained their freedom and created the state of Greece (Hellas) as it exists today.
